'Incendiary Malema will divide us'

African National Congress Youth League chief Julius Malema's recent comments could create racial polarisation in South Africa, said the Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) on Thursday. "We believe Mr Malema's incendiary remarks are designed to fan the flames of racial hatred and promote polarisation," the national office bearers of the AFM said in a statement.

Malema, according to the Sowetan, led students at the University of Johannesburg in a song saying: "Shoot the boere (farmers), they are rapists." He told students that former president Nelson Mandela had convinced blacks to forgive, but they should never forget what was done to them. The AFM said it was alarmed that senior members of the ANC had not condemned Malema's "hate-filled tirade" and had not yet disciplined him. It called on the ruling party to take "appropriate action" which would "restore the public's trust in government and its commitment to reconciliation and nation building".
